[STEP 1 ICON] Locate your nature positive opportunities

Information gathering

  • Compile (generate) spatial information for all sites (points, or preferably polygons)
  • Compile existing biodiversity assessment materials, such as surveys, EISA, and BAPs

Screening and site prioritisation

  • Screen sites for biodiversity-related impacts and opportunities to reduce risk of species extinction (and in time, ecosystem collapse) by running a Multi-Site Report in IBAT
  • Prioritise and select sites where can have the greatest opportunity of impact:
o Rank each site using the STAR-T score from the multi-site report.
o Review existing biodiversity-related materials and proximity to protected areas and Key Biodiversity Areas by running an IBAT Proximity Report
o Consider other operational factors that may influence selection of priority sites, such as on-the-ground capacity and expertise

Stakeholder mapping

  • Undertake initial stakeholder mapping

Defining Area of Influence

  • For each priority site, define the Area of Influence (AoI)

Area of Influence” refers to the geographic area where a project’s activities, including associated facilities, could potentially impact biodiversity and ecosystem services. This area is not just limited to the immediate project footprint but also encompasses zones of direct, indirect, and cumulative effects, and therefore encourages a landscape scale approach.”

Compiling preliminary threatened species and associated threat data

  • For each Area of Influence prepare your assessment by running an Estimated STAR report that provides information on globally threatened species and associated threat data
