Prepare targets & plan actions

Planning actions

  • Compile initial threat and action plan – use IUCN Conservation Actions Classification Scheme to guide this
  • Engage with stakeholders and determine actions to mitigate impacts based on the threats identified and selected
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration to design co-ordinated conservation action at landscape level
  • Consider whether to prioritise action for certain species, based on how much of the % of STAR score they account for e.g. if 3 species account for 90% of the STAR score, threat abatement and conservation actions, consider focusing actions on these 3 species
  • Identify resources needed to implement management actions to reduce the scope and severity of threats to species (and, in time, ecosystems)

Target Setting

  • Set baseline of threats to be mitigated. This may benefit from local expertise and stakeholder engagement, for example, to help with consideration of historical threats
  • Set your ambition for transformative action
  • Define Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound (SMART) objectives for your actions
  • Define KPIs, quantifiable measures of performance over time for each objective
  • Set target(s) for each KPI
